In 2021, I went through a life altering experience. My marriage, that I held as my greatest gift, came to an abrupt end. 

At the same time, I was being diagnosed as a type 1 diabetic. Something that I didn't know you could become at the age of 30. The blindside and devastation that came from these experiences caused my body to go into shock and on top of it all, I started to lose my hair in clumps. Running my hands through my hair, and looking down to find it in my hands was alarming to say the least. My body was doing its best to cope, but that meant focusing on survival, and not the extras. 

The following months I made it my job to figure out how to stop this and how I could get my hair back. I started with products that were already on the market but at the time, the options that were available to me were filled with chemicals that I couldn't pronounce and that research showed could cause even more harmful effects on my health. 

Throughout these months, I had a small but nagging feeling that maybe I could create something myself, just for me. I began researching. 

I landed on 7 ingredients that focused on scalp health, growth, hair color, restoration and hydration and made sure they would blend together effectively. I then turned to my mother who is a qualified aromatherapist and a clinical nutritionist and asked her to help me make sure that I had the correct ratios, blended in the right way. That same day, I began using it on my hair. I applied it every night without fail. 

I noticed an immediate difference in how soft my hair felt. But a few weeks later, when I washed and blow dried my hair, I almost cried tears of joy when I looked in the mirror and noticed what must have been thousands of hairs growing back across my entire scalp!

Relief. I knew I had found an answer to a problem.

I then shared my product with a few friends who were experiencing hair-loss for various reasons such as covid and postpartum. They too had incredible results. This was the turning point for me.

With the encouragement of my close circle of women, I started to wonder if I could take all the pain that I had gone through and alchemise it into creation and purpose. Could something beautiful come out of something that felt so ugly?

I decided I would make it the case. 

I didn't realize it at the time but taking those moments to sit down every night and apply this therapeutic oil to my hair, became the first steps I took back to myself during a time where I wanted to be anywhere but my own mind and body. This ancient practice of hair oiling, a tradition passed down from grandmother to mother to daughter, has become not only something that has healed my hair, but is also a meditation and self love practice that I look forward to. 

After deciding that I would take this unexpected bottle of healing into the world, I then went through the process of having it tested and approved for the market. Bobby Co was born! I spent the next couple of years learning, feeling unsure that I was up to being a business woman and ultimately letting it grow through word of mouth whilst I put my energy into piecing my life back together.

In Dec 2023, on a trip to the USA, in one night of inspiration (possibly madness) my best friends and I decided that we would jump into this dream together. I had never considered sharing this with anyone as it was so close to my heart, and my walls were high. But what's that saying? “If you want to go fast go alone, if you want to go far, go together.”  That rang true in my mind and I knew that this was part of the next step to making it more accessible for other people and taking it to the next level. 

We spent 2024 rebranding, Bobby Co became Maeba and we decided we would re-launch in America. Together, we have been able to bring ‘Maeba’ to a place that I had envisioned from the very beginning, with plans to expand our product line and become a trusted and safe, go-to natural hair-care brand. 

This powerful blend has brought healing to my hair. My dream is that it will bring healing to you too.
